Chiaki Soma, Programmdirektorin von »Theater der Welt«, stellt ihre Programmatik für das Festival in Frankfurt und Offenbach vor und die Autorin und Regisseurin Satoko Ichihara gibt einen Einblick in ihre künstlerische Praxis. Anschließend Gesprächsrunde mit der „Kulturzeit“-Moderatorin Cécile Schortmann.

»Incubationism« lautet die Wortschöpfung, die Chiaki Soma als Titel über »Theater der Welt« 2023 gesetzt hat. Gemeint ist damit die Beschreibung einer Grenzsituation in der Gegenwart, in der das Zukünftige zugleich befürchtet und ersehnt wird. Der antike Begriff der »Inkubation« bezeichnet einen Schlaf, in dem der (erkrankte) Mensch in Kontakt tritt mit dem Mythischen – auf Heilung oder neues Leben hoffend, zugleich aber die Fortdauer der Symptome fürchtend. Satoko Ichihara schreibt und inszeniert Werke, in denen (alb)traumartig Mythos und Gegenwart kollidieren – surreale Welten, in denen aus dem Abseitigen der Impuls zur Erneuerung entsteht.
Wohin führt uns der Weg aus der »Inkubation« aktueller und zukünftiger Krisen? Brauchen wir nur neue Ideen – oder müssen wir lernen, neu zu denken? Und was bedeutet das für ein internationales Festival wie »Theater der Welt«?

»Incubationism« is the neologism Chiaki Soma has chosen as the title of »Theater der Welt«. The word describes a borderline situation in which the arrival of the future is feared and desired at the same time. The ancient term »incubation« refers to a state of sleep in which the (ill) person comes into contact with the mythical – hoping for healing, but at the same time fearing the persistence of the symptoms. Satoko Ichihara writes and stages works in which myth and the present collide in a dream-like fashion – surreal worlds, where the drive for change arises from that which is cast aside, from the supposedly grotesque. Where does the path out of the »incubation« of current and future crises lead us? Do we just need new ideas – or do we need to learn how to think anew? And what role can the arts, can a festival play when it comes to these questions?
