THE GREAT GATSBY

by F. Scott Fitzgerald / adapted for stage by Iga Gańczarczyk / directed by Ewelina Marciniak
This novel is a masterful account of an impossible love affair set against the backdrop of New York in the 1920s, a time when the journey from dishwasher to millionaire was fast and furious. Jay Gatsby, a man of obscure background, has worked his way up to become one of the most prominent figures in high society. Now he's trying to get closer to his former childhood sweetheart Daisy Buchanan, who has led a sophisticated life since her marriage within her social class. While Gatsby tries to impress Daisy by showing off his wealth, his neighbour Nick Carraway watches the upper class's frivolous parties as a chronicler of events and confidant of many a secret. The ruthless and self-centred society exploits the weakest, and the longing for a deep connection seems to remain an illusion.

After "The Tove Project", Polish director Ewelina Marciniak has turned her hand to another novel, showing a new adaptation for the Frankfurt stage.

WITH ENGLISH SURTITLES ON: 10. November, 02. and 28. December, Schauspielhaus

THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL

by PeterLicht and SE Struck after Luis Buñuel / directed by Claudia Bauer
A high society party where in the end no one goes home when an invisible boundary suddenly holds all the guests captive in the hosts’ dining room. Confronted by the new reality of their apparent incarceration, the polite manners of elegant society rapidly give way to a mercilessly brutal treatment of each other. This rewriting of the surrealist film classic by Oscar-winning director Luis Buñuel employs savage humour to examine a social class whose extreme privilege renders it thoroughly incapable of any effective action. This is the multi-award winning director Claudia Bauer’s third production for Schauspiel Frankfurt.

WITH ENGLISH SURTITLES ON: Coming soon, Schauspielhaus
